Grand hotel in the hub of Manchester city centre. Old-fashioned and grandeur exterior with pretty interior. Can be slightly pricey for the conveniences and size of rooms available. Offers alright facilities in the form of a pool and a jacuzzi but now it has luxury competition from the Palace Hotel and also from the Hilton hotel in Deansgate. Definitely worth a comparison.

A grand old iconic hotel in the centre of town. a bit pricy but deals can be had on the internet. great if you're travelling by train. a bit expensive if you have to park. the place is full of character and history. my favourite hotel in Manchester.

The Midland is the place I want to live in when I'm an old embittered gin-soaked divorcee. Well, a few years ago I stayed here and it was alright. But I couldn't really see what the fuss was all about - felt just a bit run down and bed was rubbish and breakfast was good but in a big gloomy room. Kind of had a Shining feel, especially with its long windy corridors. But went to Labour conference last year and they used this hotel (more...)

Faded grandeur. And I like that. I wish they still built things like the Midland Hotel, it's certainly got a wow-factor with the sheer scale of the lobby. Sadly, on my visit this weekend the impressive gas-torches outside were not lit, but I suppose they can't be that environmentally friendly! We got a decent rate on a delux suite for the weekend (160 GBP for 2 nights), and I was pretty happy with everything. Breakfast was also included for that price, and it's a pretty comprehensive full-Englis (more...)
