As mentioned before: A 'must' and compulsory for anyone who is in Heidelberg for the first time. That's why I went to the old bridge again with visitors yesterday evening. Albeit scaffolding and construction work happening it's still beautiful. The view of the Neckar from the bridge, the northern shore with its partly very pretty houses, the Philosophenweg, the southern shore and the beautifully lit castle are simply unique - any visitor will be enchanted.

A beautiful old bridge in the heart of an amazing city. Have your picture taken on the Neuenheim side with the castle in the background, it makes for a great photo! You MUST have your picture taken inside the monkey.

Yes, the "Alte Brücke" is obligatory for tourists and Heidelbergers alike. As a lot has been written already, just a bit of background information about the bridge which not everyone knows: 1. There is a flat in the bridge's gate, or rather in the tower. Special furniture had to be made because of the curves. 1. The street below the bridge during flooding is the first to be flooded 3. The bridge is only called "Alte Brücke" in vernacular. It's real name is: "Karl-Theodor-Brücke".

The Alte Brücke is a must-see of each city tour for my guests as you have a wonderful view of the castle and of the Neckar. The whole city opens up from this angle. The Alte Brücke is one of the town's landmarks and, with its monkeys, surely is worth a visit.

If I stay in the old town with friends then a visit to the Alten Brücke is compulsory. Why? Simply because the view of the castle, the Neckartal as well as the old town and the Neckar with the big meadow from here is beautiful. If the bridge is not partly closed because of renovation work, I cannot help myself but have to stand next to the tourists and look up to the castle and to mutter a friendly 'oooh!' and 'aaah'. The locals also deserve some fun :-))) We recently had many visitors here duri (more...)
