A great gig venue that has the feel of a backroom of a pub, but all the better for it. Not the biggest, but this means you can get a good view from all around. There's also a good mix of music, so you also get good club nights as well as live bands. The only problem is the drink prices - I paid over £3.50 for a Carling, which even for London is extortionate.

Scala is close to Kings Cross station, an area which has seen quite a lot of improvements and rehabilitation in the last few years. It used to be a cinema but was shut down for showing "illegal" prints of underground classics like A Clockwork Orange.
As a music venue it is pretty good, being medium sized and normally showcasing bands which will go on to much bigger venues. Downstairs can get a bit packed, and I recommend headed upstairs to the balcony, where you can get a good view and a rai (more...)

The Scala is a small intimate venue. The capacity is between 600-1000 so frequently small bands will play here. Sometimes bigger bands will play a 'secret show' at the Scala for their most hardcore fans. This has included Jamiroquai, Garbage, Avril Lavigne, No Doubt and the Lostprophets. The prices for these 'secret shows' are often cheap too (to see No Doubt cost only a tenner and it was one of the best concerts I have seen!).
The venue is very nice in general and lighting is good for taking p (more...)

Scala is located near the heart of Kings Cross so there is a lot to do in the area, which is benefiting from all the regeneration work that is happening here.
The venue itself is medium to small in size and hosts a variety of events. I went to a Tequila promotion here once and found the layout of the place somewhat confusing at the time, although it was a Tequila promotion which may have had something to do with my confusion. Generally a good place for a night out if something good is on.
